LendKey and Cashy hosted a webinar on reaching Gen Z with financial education on October 1, 2026, for the banks and credit unions in LendKey’s network. 73 people from 44 institutions registered for the session, What Financial Advice Are Your Gen Z Members Getting on Social Media?
LendKey’s credit union and community bank partners offer private student loans and student loan refinancing, which puts them in front of the same young members the webinar was about.
LendKey invited Cashy after the same session drew 258 banks and credit unions with Kadince in June. Nathan Santomieri of LendKey opened the webinar and Erin Stevens, Director of Education Lending, closed it.
“80% of Gen Z say social media is their main source of truth these days, especially when it comes to financial education. Some of it is really great, and I’ve seen some really great content out there. Some of it, we’ll say, is creative at best. But your members can’t always tell the difference.”
Nathan Santomieri, LendKey, opening the webinarGen Z answers only 38 percent of the TIAA Institute’s personal finance index questions correctly, against 55 percent for Baby Boomers. Mart Vainu, CEO of Cashy, played examples of the money advice circulating on TikTok, then turned the webinar into a live Cashy game: attendees scanned a code, joined on their own devices, and competed on a leaderboard.
Mart closed with six takeaways for financial education teams: keep it engaging, short, relatable, visual, and simple, and give people instant wins.
“Gen Z gets its money advice in short, fun bursts on social media. To reach them, banks and credit unions need financial education that feels the same, so we had every attendee play Cashy live on the webinar and see it for themselves.”
