Numerica Credit Union plays Cashy's Life Game with 1,000 students at MoneyIRL in Spokane

Numerica Credit Union ran Cashy’s Life Game for more than 1,000 high school students at MoneyIRL, a financial education event for 12 Spokane-area school districts held on September 22, 2026 at the Spokane Convention Center.

Numerica hosted MoneyIRL together with Gesa Credit Union, STCU, and BECU, with volunteers from other local credit unions. Students worked through a Bite of Reality budgeting simulation and a set of hands-on activities, and Numerica brought Cashy as its interactive piece of the day.

Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Spokane Valley, Washington, Numerica serves more than 179,000 members and holds $4.3 billion in assets. Its financial education team works with schools, community groups, and members across eastern Washington and beyond.

“Cashy gives us an engaging, scalable way to make financial education come to life whether working with a group of 10 or 1,000.”

Three rounds, one facilitator

Jon Maroni, Financial Engagement Manager at Numerica, ran three rounds of the Life Game back to back as groups of students rotated through the convention hall. In the Life Game, students make a run of money decisions on their own devices, buying, investing, and starting a business, and see the results on the big screen. The game keeps score on both money and happiness, so the winning strategy is rarely the obvious one.

One person at the front of the room ran each round. The game paces the session, which is what makes a room of several hundred students workable without a team of presenters.

“Jon ran the Life Game for more than 1,000 students in a single day from the front of the room. One facilitator, a convention hall of high schoolers, and every one of them playing. That is the kind of session Cashy is built for.”
